I received money from financial aid. The money I received was larger than the cost of tuition. My question is, is do I get that excess money? And if so, how? Does the College i'm attending send me a check in the mail? Also, when should I expect to get it?

The reason is, is today was freshman orientation and I need to buy books. However, I don't have the money.

Any answers are appreciated, thanks.

If you're certain that you got more money than your cost of college then yes you do get the money back. Usually in the middle of the semester (probably October) the college will issue you a check (that's how it's always been for me). Its usually posted when they will be going out and that day you can pick it up but if you can't make it then they mail it.

However, financial aid should count towards book costs also. You should talk to the financial aid department or student affairs/registrar/student accounts department.
