Financial Aid for a Canadian going to school in the states?

I'm a Canadian Citizen that will be attending school in New York, to be able to receive financial aid, can i get it in Canada and have it still apply even though i will be going to school in the states?
because i dont think that i could get it while i was in New York, seeing as you need to be an American Citizen to get it right?
 
I know you have to be a US citizen for our fin. aid- or have a green card-the FASA form will ask you that. I don't know if your Canadian fin aid transfers to the States. Your college fin. aid office should be able to help you out esp. if you are going to a school close the boarder-like Buffalo-I'm sure they have lots of students that go back and forth.
