I have already applied and been approved for FAFSA for Spring semester. I had a meeting with an advisor to go get a course authorization almost two months ago for Spring semester, which I attended. Everything got updated and was listed as being fine. I got approval for the three classes that I planned on taking, but still had a fourth one that I had been enrolled for. I informed the advisor that I would be dropping that one, and she said that was fine and that I didn't need to come back in. I double checked my information online and sure enough, it said that the course authorization had been received and approved. It stayed this way for about a month and a half. Now I am seeing that on January 4th (while the college was closed for winter break) it somehow got updated to read that I am missing this document.
I think what happened is that when I dropped that fourth class during the break, the system thought the change needed to be approved again. The financial aid check is already late, of course, which is what got me curious and sent me looking through the old requirements to see what was wrong. Now my funds can't be disbursed until that document is submitted, but I am worried that I will not be able to get aid for this semester, since classes started three days ago. I do know that people on financial aid sometimes have to change their schedules during the first couple of weeks of classes, and that they still receive aid. Does this mean that I will just have to meet again with an advisor to confirm that I am taking the right classes and the check will be released after that? The advisor didn't say anything about needing to come in again after dropping that class, she specifically said that I wouldn't need to worry about it. I also didn't receive any email or other notification to let me know about the problem or tell me something else was still required, I just stumbled across it and realized that the status had changed. Please let me know if anyone has knowledge about this or has been through something similar! I can't speak with anyone on campus until Monday and I am trying to find out if I should be worried or if this can be resolved. Also, I am a student employee, which means if I can't pay for classes, I lose my job as well since student employees have to be attending the college. I have two young children and cannot afford to be out of work. : (
