Financial aid appeal letter.?

My parents are going through a divorce which has, as a result, made my financial situation very messed up. My mother is also quitting her job, making my father the only one making money. I'd like to write a financial aid appeal letter to my University to see if there is any possible way of getting even just slightly more money for the 2009-2010 school year, but I'm not sure how to start or even if it would do any good.

Can anyone give any advice on the matter?
