;1715692']According to the BBC the original Star Wars Trilogy will be released on DVD as a box set, this September.

There will be four disks, the three films and a bonus disk.

I for one will be buying it. :D :D :D

i guess in the end they realised they could release it before ep3, then release the 8 disc set for everyone to buy as well, after ep 3 comes out....

it's almost certain to be 'super' special editions, with more footage (rumours of having the new darth in place when luke removes the helmet on the death star, etc).

the originals were the bestest :)

i get the funny feeling these will be the 97' special editions rather than the ultimate versions because i remember they released the orignal versions on vhs a year before they relased the special editions in the cinema knowing that when they came out fans(including me)would buy them all over again,because even i think it would be daft not to cash in on the dvd release of episode 3 by releasing all 6 episodes in an ultimate box set

It is likely that the flood of counterfeit Star Wars DVRAB mastered from the Video Discs released in asia have finally persuaded them to do it.

I will be buying them, making it the third copy of the films purchased;
- original trilogy box set (4:3 - original cuts)
- special edition box set (16:9 letterbox - special edition cuts).
- DVD

Now George can't complain. His retirement fund will be massive!!

The 4 Disc Box set will contain the Special Edtion films and be all shiny and remastered with Dolby Digital EX and the fourth disc will have loaRAB of never before seen footage from behind the scenes also will be commentary tracks and other stuff.

i always thaught lucas promised that when they were released on DVD they would contain both the origional theatrical and the special editions on the same disk???

since the release of the special editions in 1997,lucas has seen them as what the star wars OT,rather than the original films he made in 77,80, and 1983,but he has filmed more scenes during the filming of episodes 2 and 3 to add into the original trilogy to tie up loose enRAB in the two trilogies

The Trilogy getting released will be the 1997 edits and nothing more. If lucas really did shoot more footage,( which I doubt he did) then it would possibly be included as part of the 4th disc bonus features.

Its widely known that george lucas has shot extra scenes for the original trilogy to bring it in line with the prequel trilogy and these will be released after episode 3 as a star wars saga ultimate dvd set,and to also rectify some mistakes in the special editions(GREEDO FIRING AT HAN when han should shoot greedo first,as it was in the original film)

I know this has been mentioned on a lot of fan sites but has Lucas actually confirmed all these rumors. Also Lucas changed the Greedo this to make Han appear less of a Git as he was just protecting himself.
