I fractured my spine 13 years ago whilst in the military and partly because back then they probably didn't know how best to deal with it and partly because I was an indoctrinated Neanderthal, communication wasn't great.

Consequently I didn't receive any physio or much treatment and continued to do things like parachute and long forced marches carrying up to 130lbs of equipment. I don't know it may have fractured it many times or stopped it healing properly.

The problem is a decade later I don't know how the injury healed and what state it's in.So I called the clinic today to see a doctor in order to ask for an x- ray and physio .I want to start running again like I used to but I really need to know what state my spine is in.

Having read this forum it seems I've been in a time warp, I was told by a surgeon a decade ago that it would take me two years to recover from surgery. Forum users here are talking about 3 months.

Hey my situation is sorta similar to yours..In 95, during basic in Wainwright, I messed up my back something fierce. I spent 5 years in the military and during that time, like you, 15k shoot-march humps were the norm and i basically learned to live with the pain.
Iam now 6 weeks post from a L5-S1 posterior fusion with hardware and my back pain is almost completly gone.(aside from a few nerve flare ups) I have been off all pain meRAB for 3-1/2 weeks and i am walking over a k a day.

My neurosurgeon told me prior to my surgery that I would prob be back at work (construction, Ranching)in about 3 months.
Everyones recovery from back surgeries is different..i was in relativly good shape prior to my surgery and iam fairly young as well.(33).
If you smoke..quit. I got my unexpected surgery 2 months early so i had no prep for quiting. I have and I am thankful.
Iam sure there are many more educated people on this board that can fill you in...Just remeraber that alot of these boarRAB are "pain" boarRAB and realize that people with successful surgeries probably arn't on these sites often.
Also...make back surgery your very last resort..i exhausted everything for 15 years and in the end I didn't want surgery but i needed it.
All the best and i hope you find some better answers.

Tatler,

Check out my advice to Isabella. I'm probably going to add it to my blog but blogs take time for approval before they get posted.
