Hi
Bought my daughter a start up set for fancy fish, its a 14 ltr tank and i now have two fancy fish.
The filter is kept on all day and so far all night, but it really humms and in the dead of night its all you can hear! Would it be a huge problem if i swicthed it off for a few hours each night?
I have been clearing the water of left over food after each (small) feed, also have changed a 3rd of the water every two days since we have had it so its still nice and clean.
Advice very welcome! Thanks.))
Hi the two fish are fancy goldfish and are very small (at mo) i do plan on getting a bigger tank i am aware 14 ltrs is too small for bigger fish.
thanks i will try the foam under the filter!

You may want to check and make sure your intake tube is down over the impeller housing. a 25% to 50% water change weekly is the reccomended amount. A third is ok too. about turning off the filter, as long as it's less than 8 hours may be ok, but, I would advise you to at least have aeration going during ths time.

Well, I'm not sure if you're talking about goldfish, tropical fish, or what...."fancy fish" doesn't describe what kind of fish they are, really. As far as turning off the filter, absolutely not. If you're able to, get a quiet filter or move the tank.
