Films reviews compared 2 your opinions

Ooooh! Plenty! I think that many mainstream classics are a bunch of old tosh - american beauty? Schindler's List? Contact? Phooey I Say!

Latest example of review overkill is LOTR III. The editing is truly awful. Just because you decide to over-use 'Slo-mo' doesn't make the film great! The pacing, as a result, is dire IMHO.

I think that there are many films that reviewers say are rubbish but I like - you tend to find that a particular piece of media will gear their reviews to their target audience (eg Max Power may adore 2Fast2Furious whilst Needlework Monthly hates it).
It's just the way that it is.

I really liked Final Destination 2 for instance. I thought that it was witty, clever and 'going for broke' with the death sequences rather than replicating the original and creating yet another teen/slasher combo. Others disagreed...

Schindler's List was 'old tosh' was it? Well it's horses for courses I guess, but IMO that's just a stupid comment. How it is old tosh for Christ's sake? Were you expecting some gags?

Erm...are you serious....I mean you honestly thought that it was the idea that there weren't any action sequences that put me off?
Not the fact that it was explotative trash created for the selfish whoring of history.
If Spielberg wanted another Oscar so badly then he should have made a heart-warming drama staring Meryl Streep not fiddling with history in such a biased and disgraceful way!
The style of the film was shoddy, and could have been done by any media student. "Look it's in black and white - apart from the girl - she's in color - it's symbolism see....*studio execs mumble excitedly with dollar sign fever*

I have to say that Rob P's comments aren't unusual. Why was 'Schindler's List' such a good film? I put it to you that it wasn't and instead we are forced to delight at it or else risking being called a nazi :(

I started to watch the Royal Tenambaums recently but couldn't get on with it and switched off after 30 mins or so, then discovered that Radio Times gave it 5 stars!!!!!! Am I wrong or was the film not that good?

every review is subjective - that's the reason it's a guide and nothing better than such.
take in the reviewers likes/dislikes (and in many cases mental state at the time of viewing/writing ;) ), the magazines/medias editors (and third parties influence...) take on what direction it should have be taking, and just how many nice freebies they were all treated to before even considering if your tastes are similar :)
some of my favourite reviewers i read purely because i like their style, even if i tend to disagree with what they're writing. certain publications i avoid due to extreme (in my view) bias to particular companies, and others i buy purely for a single writer whos word could well be my own given their similarity in tastes.

Your not the only one msande. Then again some people dont understand why we (or i for that matter) get so over-excitied about LOTR, Matrix, spider man etc:rolleyes:
