Films on TV shown again and again

I've noticed a sharp decline in the number of different films shown on free to air TV channels. Every week in the radio times, I seem to see the same films reviewed week in week out. The ITV franchise appear to be the worst culprit as they just move the same films from ITV4, then to ITV3, ITV2 and then ITV1 and back again.
Film4 are also not brilliant but they do show some indie gems late at night.

How expensive is it to broadcast a film on TV compared to a home-grown or foreign drama? Does the channel have to continually repeat the movie to earn it's money back from the advertising?

I couldn't tell you how much they are to show simply because I don't have those figures however I have fealt the same way that there has been a decline for some time. Film Four used to be good but I feel they have let themselves go of late to be honest. I am not sure if its just that the BEEB, ITV, CH4 and 5ive are unwilling to pay the prices of simply that the likes of Sky stop them being shown, I am not blaming Sky entirely, at the end of the day they pay their money they get the service and people do have a choice if they wish to get Sky or VM to be able to have the Movies channel but sometimes I think Sky having it all is a bad thing.

Why do channel 4 show a film, then show it again at the same time the next week?

Also, Zorro seems to be on quite a bit, as well as Love Actually and Wimbledon on the ITV channels (they seem to be on quite a lot during different parts of the year.)

LOL. There's a film called Soccer AM that they show every Saturday morning on Sky Sports 1 and Sky 1. And there's a film called The Weakest Link that they show on BBC1 every day before the news. Come to think of it, they show that film "The News" three or four times a day on various channels.

The quality of films on TV these days has been rubbish.

It is cheaper to buy and rent DVRAB these days anyway and you have such a wide choice.

But, I do think that the broadcasters should get their act together and dish up a movie channel or two like Film4 which does show decent films from time to time.

The odd thing about Film Four is it does sometimes show decent films but personally I don't think F4 has been the same since it moved from a pay channel to freeview.

channels, especially SKY buy their movies per film in bulk. when SKY buy a film they show it 50 times on its first run. ITV work the same way.
