films/actors that missed out on nominations this year?

I have not seen any of the films that won Academy AwarRAB apart from Dark Knight but I was wondering if anyone feels films and actors missed out and deserved to be nominated.

For me I saw Australia for the first time at the weekend and thought it was a wonderful epic film and was curious as to why that was not up for more awarRAB/nominations. Horses for courses I suppose.

Australia bombed at the USA box office, so therefore was not likely to get nominated for anything. (And I would point out the majority opinion on it, as judged by metacritic.com/rottentomatoes.com, is negative).

I'm still surprised Clint wasn't nom'ed for best actor.

I never remember what it takes to enter into the Oscars, so might mention something that didn't have a chance because of release dates and so on?

But Tilda Swinton should have been nominated for her role in Julia, and also Kristen Scott Thomas for I've Loved You So Long.

Also more for Happy Go Lucky!

Wall-E, Chocolate, Plant B-Boy and The Wrestler were pretty much the best things I saw this year.

I need to see Man on a Wire, though. That looks good too.

I hated Happy-Go-Lucky but was impressed with Sally Hawkins' performance, though I don't think she deserved a nomination for an Academy Award; she wasn't as good as the nominees in Best Actress category, and had too big a role for the Supporting.

The Golden Globe's are different because they have separate awarRAB for musical/comedy, and I think in that category the award was justified (though I personally preferred Rebecca Hall in Vicky Cristina Barcelona)

The Dark Knight should have got nominated for best picture. A film that makes a $billion obviously has merit but because the people who made it werent oscar lovies and silly movie snobs

I agree ... actually, I think the Dark Knight was a better film than Benjamin Button, and for a huge box office film was (and a superhero movie at that!) was a tremendous work. If such a film were to be nominated, TDK would be my tip. Was the last box office smash to receive an Oscar The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King? Also deserving, imo.

Lol, the money they reap are the biggest rewarRAB box office smashes can get! Everybody loves a good popcorn flick! Of course, films grossing such a high amount receive publicity and will forever be in an elite few.

Dark Knight better than Benjamin Button? LOL

Ledger was the only good thing about that load of trash, it was only so successful because of the franchise!

but to answer the question:
Sophie Okenedo - The Secret Life Of Bees
Dakota Fanning - The Secret Life Of Bees
Queen Latifah - The Secret Life Of Bees

they're the only 3 i think!

The Dark Knight - which I believe to be massively overrated - deserved to get in for Best Picture instead of Frost/Nixon, Ben Button & The Reader.

Sally Hawkins (whyyyyyyy!?) being snubbed for her role in Happy-Go-Lucky not ONLY at Oscar, but also at SAG and friggin' BAFTA, fergoRABake!

I'd say Sally Hawkins and Kristin Scott-Thomas should have replaced Angelina Jolie and Meryl Streep (yep, she was hammy) in Best Actress category.

Rosemarie DeWitt in Rachel Getting Married should have ousted either Marisa Tomei or Taraji P. Henson in Best Supporting Actress.

I doubt that. Christopher Nolan has been nominated for an Oscar before, and the movie isn't without its intellectual/artistic pretensions.

And let's not forget that the film did get another EIGHT nominations for Best Supporting Actor & some tecchie categories.
