Film Title Query

I'm trying to remember the title of a film.

It's based on a book about a man who was a salesman (I think) but claimed his was a CIA assassin.

I can't remember anyone who was in it or when it was released.

I remember it starts off with the man holed up in a room with a woman trying to get in

Ta folks, it was confessions. I knew George Clooney was involved but didn't recognise anything on his IMDB credits. I'd forgotten that he'd directed it.
