Film techniques in (500) Days of Summer?

Is there a specific name for the technique when they contrast scenes by revisiting the same places but showing different moods? ..Or is it just contrasting?

e.g. first at the furniture store, they're happy and playful, and then they revisit that same Ikea store and Summer is unhappy

or maybe when Tom walks into the elevator deliriously happy and then in the next scene, the elevator door opens and he's worn down and depressed.

I'm writing an essay on how this film portrays change in a relationship. Thanks!
 
Yes I think you've go something I didn't notice. What I know about the directing is that the director tried to make the theme of the movie blue to go with Zooey Deschanels eyes. Most of the movie was based on the music and art so the director covered walls with albums and pictures of artist mentioned in the movie.
