no he won't, people get mad and then get over it. but if you don't meet up with them, they lose trust in you and become more and more distant.
 
Have to agree with this philosophy. The first time is always the hardest. Take a deep breath, and head on out there. What's the worst that could happen? (I always ask myself that.) You spill spagetti sauce on your new white dress? You can't think of anything clever to say? So what? He asked YOU, so he's already interested.

Oh, and take along chocolate.
 
Are you meeting the people from work for a date or is it just something like hitting a coffee shop? If it's nothing too serious, try making it a little group event with like 4 people from work all going and doing something. You'll have a couple of your better friends there and that could help things along.
