Few questions about grants/scholarships?

First off, some background info. I am in my last semester at Orange Coast College in California. I have been accepted into Cal State Fullerton and will be transferring there for the Fall 2011 semester. A friend of mine told me that it costs about $2,500 a semester, not counting parking or books, so I'm guessing that total it would be around $6,000 a year, or $12,000 for the two years that I will be there. Now for my questions:

1. For those that received grants, which ones did you get? Any links to any grants that are relatively easy to get would be much appreciated. The more free money I can get, the better.

2. Are there any scholarships that you guys have received that didn't call for high expectations (GPA, extra curriculars, etc)

3. That same friend that I mentioned previously (he currently attends CSUF), said that he applies for FAFSA every semester and they give him about $3,500 a semester with a 4% interest rate that doesn't kick in until he graduates. I have applied for FAFSA a few times and have received money. My question is, isn't FAFSA a grant? If it's a grant, why would there be an interest rate? Isn't it just free money? Is he talking about a FAFSA loan? Is there such thing? I've probably received about $4,000 total for both of the times I've applied, and I never had to pay any interest.
