Okay, I have a few weeks short of 4 years of Regular Army service from 2004-2008. I plan to join the federal law enforcement workforce. I understand all new federal hires fall under FERS. Federal law enforcement can retire at any age with 25 years of service or at age 50 with 20 years. If I buyback 3 years of my military service:
1. would I be able to subtract 3 years from the years of service retirement requirement
OR
2. do those 3 years act like 28 years of service at any age and 23 years at age 50?
