Ferret opinions and facts, please :)?

Hello.

Thank you for looking at my question :). I am 22 years old as of a month ago, and I have about a month of nothing but free time for the next month. Now, this is not a whim purchase -_- I have wanted a ferret since I was 8, but now that I am not in QLD and im back in NSW, im able to get one. I've bought the enclosure (a 2 story hatch, as when I move out in about 3 months I will be getting another ferret so he/she has a friend, as I've heard that is very recommended), have logged all the tips I could on what to feed them (any further tips would be greatly appreciated :D), ferret proofed my home, the lot.

The line of work I am in requires me to be at the office from 30-45 hours a week. I am not a social person, at all. If theres something I want to do, I do it, but I don't hold many friends, and would rather spend my time doing something I enjoy (going out and getting drunk is not enjoyable to me). Needless to say, I spend over 90% of my evenings at home, wishing I had a pet as my dog died before I left to QLD for work (I will not be moving out of the state of NSW again).

I love animals, I've had over 5 different types of parrots growing up, nursed a kangaroo bub for a few months, ive had dogs, lived with a cat... Didn't like it, that cat was mean. I don't mind being nipped or scratched, but all that growling is just mean. I'm just trying to say that I'm not a novice when it comes to animals :) Especially raising them, as I used to live next to a lady who's house was the shelter for WIRES birds and marsupials and I used to spend my weekends helping her clean up and talking to her about her bats.

What my question is, is how would a ferret react to me not being present from say 6 AM in the morning until 5 PM at night, considering he had a ferret friend as well? They will have a playpen that I have made so he can leave his hutch, and wreak havoc on about 2-3 meters of my floor with all their toys there).

And also, I welcome any opinions, facts, or even tips etc, for a first time ferret owner.

P.S - Please do not leave negative comments, or ones accusing me of animal abuse (as I have not bought the kit yet), or any long rants about how extremely hard ferrets are to own and I shouldn't get one. The only reason why I say this is because almost every other threat ferret related on yahoo seems to have hundreds of people going off their tree haha.

Thank you,

-Gem
