about 3 weeks ago i bought two female rats. yesterday one of my girls gave birth to ONE baby rat. she then partially ate it. i did some research and i believe she felt threatened by my other female, and i read that when rats feel threatened, they will eat their babies. PLUS, my rats have not been getting along since I've had them. they fight all the time. now i CANNOT keep them in the same cage. my mother rat just attacks my other girl. AND today she bit me. she seems to be fine around everyone else in my family, BUT me. i'm not sure why the sudden change in mood. she is a young rat, about 4 months old. i have my girls seperated, but my mother rat still continues to build a nest. i am completely lost. i have never had pet rats before. any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!!!
I had no idea she was even pregnant. so i have had my rats together the whole time. if i had known, i would have separated them immediately.
