Hi All
New to the website/asthma forum. 4 yrs ago I was diagnosed with asthma, in that 4 yrs its gone from mild to severe. This year has been flare up after flare up. A little over a month ago I developed a lung infection and was scheduled for a check-up after 10 days. Didnt go away matter of fact it got worse my Doctor has given me a different antibiotic and prednisone 50ml for 5 days and 25 for 5 more days and stop. This morning I took the pill and noticed some relief already but still shortness of breath(which was very bad before) so I know it might take awhile to kick in. The thing is Im feeling some chest discomfort(more than usual) and feel like Im going to faint(lightheaded, dizziness). I was thinking maybe the dose is too strong for me? Anyone have any suggestions? Im also taking Syrabicort 200 4 puRAB a day, benadryl for my allergies and pantaloc for acid reflux( I also have GERD), Im taking Avelox for the infection he also thinks it may even be pnuemonia. Sorry for the mispelling and what not , I think I have brain fog cause I cant seem to get it together Thnx for any help you can give :)

The prednisone will raise your blood pressure which is probably what's going on. Do you have access to a BP machine? I'd check it and see if it's up. Call your doctor if it is and see what he wants you to do.

You don't mention a rescue inhaler. Do you have one and have you used it?

Yes checked out my blood pressure it was 137/87 with a pulse rate of 136 at rest, taking albutrol also Thank you for the reply.

As the hours went on my blood pressure continued to rise at over 160/96 I had a head ache so bad it hurt to move. The pain in my legs got so bad I couldnt get out of bed and didnt want to anyways my head hurt so much I thought it was going to explode. I had chest pain , tingling ,nurabness in left shoulder blade which trickled on down my spine. My mate came in and gave me something to calm me down and got a hold of the Doctor. I was told do NOt continue taking the prednisone, matter of fact I was not to take any of my Asthma medication but continue antibiotic an was given something for anxiety. By 9:00 last night I was feeling a little better and my blood pressure finally went down to my norm which is between 110 / 117 over 67/ 81. The heart palpitations subsided and the pain in my left arm had just about gone I was able to finally get some rest. This morning I'm feeling like I was hit by a truck but most of the pain has gone and even my breathing isnt too bad. If I cant take sterioRAB I dont know what I'm going to do to keep my asthma under control. I know one thing for sure I cannot take sterioRAB they do not work well with me. My questions is , is it possible that it could just be my allergies causing the shortness of breath? I know for me my allergies are all year round. I was just wondering.

Happy air surfing may you all find the perfect breath of air:)

WEll, they might just have to adjust the dosage - or give you a single shot instead of the pills.

Youre absolutely right! The doc lowered the dosage a bit and I took the prednisone . No bad side effcts and I feel great so far, dont think Im going to have any trouble with it from here on. Thnx! :)

Your pulse is that high resting and the doctor is not concerned about that? I am not a doctor but I dont think that a pulse that high during rest is normal, maybe thats causing you to be lightheaded and short of breath? I know sometimes when I have palpations I am short of breath. I just had a holter done and I had 23 beats of a heart rate of 140 at 4am and the doctor told me it was ok so long as it did not continue that high for a long time.

Just a thought, feel better soon.
