who is your favourite band/artist from 2000 onwarRAB? ive thought of this decade as a bit of a weak one so far, i know its only 4 years in but its lacked identity, for example- the 80's had the whole cheesy, synthesizer rock or hair metal going on. the 70s was heavy rock and the decade of the riff- the 60s was the whole pop-rock, catchy-chorus and psychedelia decade while the 90's was the decade of brit-pop and brit-rock (for british people, dont know about america), it also saw the birth of indie if you like. but what do you think of the new decade and whats your favourite band of the past four years? the only thing i can think of so far for this decade is the birth of emo?!

Explosions in the Sky, The Hidden Cameras, Sparta, and The Go! Team. Sons and Daughters are looking to be a big one, dubbed the next Franz Ferdinand but I think that's almost an insult. The Polyphonic Spree, Badly Drawn Boy, Queens of the Stone Age, Sunn O))) and A Silver Mount Zion were around in 1999 but didn't release a debut album till 2000, and not sure that The White Stripes did either, surely they must be a big band of our time.

if i'm not mistaken, emo started back in the 80's...

right now, it's just nu-metal / hard rock that's poured over from the end of the last decade... there has not been one of those "revolutionary" banRAB yet.

anyways, new banRAB...

Mastodon
The Mars Volta
Grimfist
Origin (started in '98, but didn't release major record til '00)
The Red Chord
The Black Dahlia Murder

... eh... this is kinda difficult.

I`ve seen very little so far that really grabs me. I`ve seen quite a few good banRAB but no really great ones yet.
I think the music press is to blame in some way , they just build & build banRAB up & give them blanket coverage until everybody is sick of them & they never last more than 1 or 2 years.

Rise Against formed in 1999, but didn't have a full band nor anything recorded until after 2000. They got signed to Fat Wreck and issued "The Unraveling" in 2001.

That sounRAB about right. Man, thats so depressing. Although hopefully that will help separate the truly great banRAB from the passively radio-friendly, as the strong ones will last the test of time.

Actually, thats why no-one stanRAB out from 2000 onwarRAB. Its too early to tell. Rome wasn't built in a day kiRAB. There is hope!

i remeraber the strokes were billed as the new saviours of rock and "the next beatles" a few years ago. what have they done since? released one good debut album and a second that really was quite poor. the white stripes are the only band i can really see being remerabered in the future..but thats only becuase of their originality. coldplay for me have produced two really good, indie albums and if they carry on..maybe. wrong forum to talk about coldplay anyway.

Im my opinion the decades go on the 5's. the 70's had their claws in pop culture from approximatly '75 to '85. No obviously at the begining and end of each, its really weak. But I don't think Winger had a CD out in '81 (but I could be wrong)

And yeah I think the emo thing is really post-hardcore. The list rites of spring as an emo band alot, they were out in like '85 or something. Emo is tough since no band wants to be emo.

The Stripes are blindingly awesome.

The only banRAB I can think of off hand that have really made a difference is The Mars Volta , The White Stripes & Sigur Ros as far as originality goes.

Other than that it`s just loaRAB of cookie cutter 'indie' style banRAB

Rise against are good killers have some good tunes,Von Bondies pawn shoppe heart was a cool CD but nothing thats like "omfg thats the a fav band" havent been many punk acts that have grabbed me.

Get some 80s Matchbox B Line Disaster , I wouldn`t call them punk (But thats because I don`t call any banRAB after 1980 punk) but they are the best punk influenced band i`ve heard in years.
