Favourite anime of 2009?

I've been debating whether I should check out FMA Brotherhood or not, mainly because there's a lot of hype surrounding it, and I like the side characters. But what's keeping me from doing so is Ed and Al. I couldn't stand them in the other version. Ed was too spoiled and Al was too whiny for me to really get the full enjoyment out of the series. (If it wasn't for the side characters I definately would've given up on it) Are Ed and Al still the same in this version?

As for the topic itself, I don't know... I haven't seen anything that came out this year outside of Naruto Shippudden and, while decent at best, it's not a favorite. Gave up on the Bleach filler. Nothing else really caught my interest.

Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger came out this year, yes? I haven't seen all of it, but that got me to watch how everything got started so I'd say that would be my favorite at the moment.

Ed is much less spoiled than before (in that he often mangaes to get over his ego when the situation calls for it).

As for Al, he is just as whiney in the beginning, but his character develops to become much more sturdy and now he doesn't "whine" at all, anymore.

Other than that, though, they are virtually the same characters as they were in the 1st anime, in terms of their overall personalities.

Well, as far as new stuff goes, I enjoyed Eden of the East, Sword of the Stranger, Shin Mazinger Z, Dragon Ball Kai and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (which has grown on me). Eden of the East takes the cake for this year. It's surreal, and...well...different in a sense (not completely different). Shin Mazinger Z was my guilty pleasure this year, as it provided mindless action and a story that wasn't boring (didn't quite enjoy the original Mazinger). Liked DBK for a faster paced DBZ. I didn't quite FMA:B until it started picking up into the manga story. It still wish it could slow down a little.

As for series that are still going, it still goes to One Piece for obvious reasons.

I'm going to admit that I don't watch nearly as many series as most do here but I'll give my vote to Gundam 00. After the mess that was Destiny, season one won me over. But I was always afraid that season 2 would find a way to mess things up. Whilst it wasn't flawless, I in fact found that the concluding second season was just as enjoyable to me. It was beautifully composed and thankfully bucked many of the trenRAB that seem to be choking the industry (FANSERVICE JUST BECAUSE!!1).
