Favorite Weekday Morning/Before School Cartoons

Everyone obsesses over weekday afternoon and Saturday morning cartoons, but what about weekday morning cartoons? Now...I understand why those get overlooked. You're too busy getting ready to pay attention to it. However, there was always that ONE cartoon you always tried to watch. Plus, let's not forget vacation. I'm sure there was a line-up you enjoyed to watch during those 2.5 months of summer vacation, 2-week Holiday break, and spring break.

When I was a kid I loved watching Bobby's World and the syndicated Sonic comedy cartoon. My affliate aired those back to back as FOX Kids cartoons even though only one of them was actually a FOX Kids show.

During vacation time I never really watched anything new. I would just watch TNT Toons which consisted of classics like Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera, MGM, and Paramount.

The only "before school" cartoons I remember from my childhood are the Lorimar Gumby cartoons, the Jetsons revival episodes, the Nelvana Care Bears and Looney Tunes.

For some reason I didn't watch many cartoons before school when I was a kid. As early as I can remember I watched videos on MTV in the morning (y'know, back when it was good ), and sometime around junior high it was SportsCenter. But then somehow in high school Pokemon started and I got hooked on that. :p

I loved Bobby's World back in the early 90's too, it would come on about an hour before I would have to leave the house for school, good times man, good times. I loved Pink Panther, Conan and Mr. Bogus, which all of which for a short while came on in the mornings on the same channel Bobby's World came on in my area. Those were good times, and I still kind of relive them with Bakugan, Transformers and Ben 10 which I watch during early mornings on Cartoon Network before I head out to work.

Garfield & Friends was, from 1995-2002, my favorite way to wake up on a weekday morning. The mornings usually started with either ReBoot, Beast Machines, or Sailor Moon (depending on what year we're talking about here), but Garfield was an excellent 6:30AM staple.

I'm also surprised by how long my UPN affiliate had it on, only taking it (and Sailor Moon...yes, in 2002) off once Disney removed their syndicated block.

My all-time favorite weekday morning show goes back farther than I really should admit here, but so what?

That was "Smile Time," circa the early 1960s on WROC-TV, Rochester, NY. Featured together, and exclusively, were the original black & white Popeye cartoons and Three Stooges short subjects! With no edits whatsoever!! Ah, kids' TV bliss, the likes of which will never again be matched by local channels anywhere.

Most of the morning toons I watched never seemed to stay on for more than a couple months. But I did end up getting introduced to Sailor Moon, DragonBall and Roswell Conspiracies through those morning lineups.

Too bad only one of those seems to be commercially available in America now.

In my city, Sailor Moon was part of the afternoon line-up. And Dragonball was aired on Sunday mornings for some reason. I still remember when CN started airing Dragonball and it became popular I was telling everyone, "yea I already saw that show a few years back." lol.

For some reason, all the best cartoons were saved for either weekday afternoons, or the 8:00 a.m. slot after I'd left for school.

I remember being excited when Muppet Babies entered syndication, but then was disappointed when it was being aired at 7:30 and I had to be on the bus at 7: 15.

But I loved watching Power Ranger's before it became so mega popular that FOX moved it to the afternoon slot (exchanging it for Garfield & Friends' afternoon slot, putting Garfield weekdays at 7:30).

I also liked catching TMNT when it's popularity was on the decline when FOX moved it to weekday mornings, but then it jumped channels and TMNT's new channel decided to air it at 8:00 a.m. where I couldn't watch it.

For some reason, all the popular cartoons (PR being the exception) only ended up in the morning slot only when their popularity was waning. Thundercats and G.I. Joe both ended up in the morning slot just before they left syndication here.

Another couple cartoons that came on Nickelodeon in the mornings back in the very early 90's that I loved to watch were Muppet Babies and David the Gnome, both shows had catchy opening theme songs and both cartoons required children to open up their imaginations. I really miss those days, it's a damn shame that cartoons will never be as available as they once were, besides CN and Nicktoons (which is cool), but we will never be able to tune into Fox or UPN again and watch morning/afternoon cartoons and it does not sit well with me. At least we have our memories and can remember the fond times we had with those timeslots and the cartoons that aired.

Here, PR always aired in the afternoon. What they did was repeat the previous day's episode in the morning.

If I recall...those were part of the Nick, Jr schedule.

I think were I live the last season or two of The Disney Afternoon played in the morning ( ) because I remember occasionally watching 101 Dalmations, Ducktales, Quack Pack, and Doug in the morning.

My favorite cartoons I remember watching back in the 90's before school in the mornings were Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Underground, Bobby's World, Life with Louie, Tiny Toon Adventures.

I'm sure their were other cartoons, but these are the only ones I really cared about or that I remembered.

Everyone, I'm almost 37, and I STILL remember watching weekday morning cartoons!!!

Oddly enough, I sometimes woke up at 5:45 A.M. to start watching TV before school. On New York's WPIX, I still remember Mike Wallace's B&W Biography show where I would always catch the last 10 minutes of. At 6 A.M., I used to love seeing Hot Fudge Show. It was a local kiddie show from Detroit's ABC-7 affiliate. My favorite puppet character was Seymour, BTW.:anime:

Now, back in the late 70's, WPIX had lots of great stuff like Mighty Mouse and Tom & Jerry. I used to love them!:D Meanwhile, Channel 5 had stuff like Bugs Bunny & Underdog. They were terrific!:D

Also, when I was in high school, I used to love the TBS Tom & Jerry Funhouse with the Three Stooges shorts! Not to mention Beverly Hills Teens on New York's Channel 9!!!:D I remember seeing the opening sequence before leaving for school at 7 A.M.:anime:

Oh, I also remember seeing Sailor Moon on WPIX as well.:)

Finally, one of the last non-Kids WB shows that I remember on WPIX's weekday mornings was Robocop: Alpha Commando. I thought it wasn't too bad at all.:)

I shall never forget weekday morning cartoons! They'll always be a part of my childhood!:D

I only remember a few, but I would always watch Pokemon or Monster Rancher, before that I vaugly remember my local FOX affiliate airing Fantastic 4 & Hulk in the mornings for a short time, now I just watch the news in the mornings.

Beast Wars was probably the best cartoon on weekday mornings in the 90's. When your parents are willing to wake up and watch it with you in the morning, you know it's a great show.

As I recall, it was originally part of a weekday action block. It could be DiC, but I might be wrong. Each weekday morning they'd have a one hour block for Beast Wars, The New Ghostbusters, GI Joe Extreme, and Reboot. Beast Wars was on the majority of the week.
