Favorite battles in anime/manga

A rather simple and straightforward question, What are favorite battles in the various anime/magna you see and why? Theycan be one on one fightss or large-scale army battles.

Rurouni Kenshin
Kenshin vs Saitoh - Give me good artwork and animation and I'm satisfied. It went an extra mile with some great music thrown in as well. The fast pace movements and the intensity that comes along with, that's what I need and this fight delivers it. When it comes to samurai / ninja fights I want all of them to look like this otherwise I'd end up being disappointed.

Kenshin vs Soujiro Seta - Take everything that the Kenshin and Saitoh fight dishes out and put it here. Only double time it (hey it was a contest of speed). It was even kind enough to throw in some characterization.

Yu Yu Hakusho
Yusuke vs Youmi (sp?) - While I thought it was a bit lacking in the animation department, I was still glued to my tv during that fight. Quite shocking to see that it ended the way it did.

Sensui vs Team Urameshi - Let me start by saying that Chapter Black was an awesome arc / saga and my hooking point (I haven't seen the Dark Tournament yet, or rather, I've only seen a couple of episodes). It was a little over the top with the sacred energy armor stuff. The twist on Yusuke was a shock and then the final fight was pushed to the max. This fight had a bit of everything.

Moribito
Balsa vs Hunter people - Like I said, I'm a sucker for great artwork and animation. Not to mention strong women that don't act like some sort of damsel. Too bad I haven't been able to catch anymore of this.

I'll stop there. Got more Kenshins, some One Piece (manga), Bleach (manga), perhaps a little bit of Naruto (anime/manga), and some Samurai Champloo

What are you doing!? Watch it now!

Luffy vs. Lucci-The culmination of everything Oda had worked up to until that point. Every character needed their chance to show they had grown as a person in that arc. It was Luffy turn to do the same. For a while, I had been anxiously waiting to see what Jet Gatling would have looked like animated and Toei did not disappoint. In fact, it made the moment even more epic.

Gintoki vs. Benizakura-The first major arc of Gintama proved that it is able to balance gut-busting comedy with incredible action that would make even the big shounen 3 weep in admiration. The high-paced battle and declaration to Takasugi just made the moment better.

Gilgamesh vs. Everyone (Tower of Druaga: Sword of Uruk)

How do you kill somebody who's way stronger than you could ever hope to be? Run straight at him with your sword. Then while he's distracted with you, somebody else shoots him in the back. Then when he goes after that person, a third person comes up and blinRABides him. After he knocks down person nuraber 3, have a fourth person shoot him again. And then...

Ki vs. Gilgamesh (Tower of Druaga: Sword of Uruk)

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Taiga vs. the Student Body President (Toradora!)

So savage. And it's not even an action series.

(This is all I can think of off the top of my head. Might add more later.)

Yu Yu Hakusho
Pretty much every fight in the Dark Tournament arc. I would not move from my chair when I was watching those fights. They were just so thrilling.

Yusuke vs Yomi

Ginga Nagareboshi Gin
The fight against Akakabuto. Come on, you can't say that that fight wasn't awesome!

Pokemon Special
Any and every fight against the final antagonist of the arc. They are always well drawn and well done.

Quoted because it's true.

Being a military sf junkie, pardon me for treating the following anime battles as if they were right out of WWII

And without further ado:

The First Battle For Earth, First Digital Crisis (Digimon 01): Sure Digimon had a ton of battles, and weren't as dramatic as other anime conflicts. But the Mytoismon arc was the first Digimon battle that felt statisfying. There was character development, humor, sadness, and struggle. And all done in a three episodes!

That's probably why I like this battle, it did not take half the season to finish or a good chunk of my life waiting for the pace to pick up.

The Battle of A Baoa Qu, One Year War (Gundam Movie Trilogy): The climax of the One Year War, it not only provides plenty of mecha action, but a semi-final confrontation between Amuro and Char. Surprisingly, the dialogue between the two adRAB to the drama and not distract from it.

The Battle of Exile, the Disith-Anatoray War (Last Exile): Best dogfighting since Star Wars. That, but it provides the most satisfying end of all time when
Alex breaks free from a cross of roses, and chokes with his bare hanRAB the Maestro
The Anime Club stood up and cheer when this happened. Now that's a great battle.

The Turkuro Incident (Ghost in the Shell:SAC): Counterstrike: THE ANIME!

Somewhat kidding, but we rarely do see the Major and her boys unleash their butt-womping skills against an army of terrorists. A mix of old-school military skill and high-tech weaponry, plus loaRAB of action.

Well, in Trigun Maximum the fight Wolfwood vs Chapel & Livio/Razlo that happens after Wolfwood rescues Vash is one of the best fights i have ever seen. It was intense, and Wolfwood was a great underdog (and you all know how i love underdogs), quite a die hard, Its a miracle Wolfwood actually won that battle, cause looking back there's really know way he shouldve stood a snowballs chance, but then again you remeraber what the price was was right? Anyway, it was awesome.

Heck yes. That's just another plus to the series. The best part is just how she whips that wooden sword out of her back. I was like "Whoa! I did not see that coming."

Seriously, everybody should see this

EDIT: Wow, watching that again, I realize how Gurren Lagaan has effected animation these days

As far as Yu Yu Hakusho goes, everyone has already listed my favorite battles in the series, but I suppose that I'll just specify that my favorite has to be:

Yusuke vs. Toguro- I basically felt that it had the right amount of everything in it. It had some cool action with lots of emotion behind it, and it also has that cliche yet still great moment that you get when a shounen character comes to some obvious realization of what he's really capable of when he knows that he neeRAB to protect his frienRAB and then basically completely starts to turn the tables on the main villain that he's fighting, as he almost instantly gains the upper-hand in the battle after that point. But, whether its cliche or not, the point is that YYH pulls that fight off brilliantly, as it really does feel enjoyable to watch and also strikes you with the right emotions at the right times, IMO.

As for One Piece, I'm going to have to go with:

Luffy vs. Crocodile- Simply because it was Luffy's first battle against a major bad guy (as in guys who would have bounties of over $100 million dollars if the World Government decided to make a Wanted poster of them). Well, a bit more than that, actually. While Luffy had basically won every battle against a villain up until that point within just a few episodes, in this case Luffy had to get taken down twice before he finally ended up pounding Sir Crocodile's ass once he made his 3rd attempt at fighting him.

There are a bunch of other fights which I could list from multiple other series, but for now I'll just say 1 more personal favorite of mine, this time from History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi:

Kenichi vs. Odin- I'll be honest, that 5-minute segment where Kenichi starts imitating his masters, alone, is what sold it for me. The rest of the fight was pretty good too, but it wouldn't be one of my favorites without that fun scene. The only way that I could describe how I felt about it was that it basically managed to be both hilarious yet also pretty bad-ass (well, more "cool" than "bad-ass" to me, if that makes any sense at all, which I'm sure it doesn't ) at the same time. It was also a good final battle on the anime's part (and of course since the manga continues much further beyond that point, it was merely only the final battle of a story arc for it).

Guts vs. anyone (Berserk)

Always the first fight scene of an arc. Guts steps up to face off against impossible odRAB. Everybody around him, good and bad, has a "Ha, who's this loser?" moment. Guts then takes one mighty swing and sprays the first wave of enemies into a fine red mist. Cut to the naysayers now going OMG WTF JUST HAPPENED?

Happened a dozen times. Never gets old.

For me his best fight would be have to be the battle when he fought that priest (Mozgus?) and his torture squad goons in Albion, that was pretty epic.

Just about every fight on Gurren Lagann, witch the exception of the somewhat superhero comicbook-esque fourth episode battle.

The fight at the end of FLCL episode 2.

A good portion of the fights from Gundam 00.

Really, there are just too many for me to list.

Having just finished watching 00 in it's entirety I'll not only second that, but mention my favorite out of that whole series which is the Second season episode 12-13 battle where the ptolemaios attacks the orbital super lazer weapon. Not only was it visually exciting but all the characters involved are on thier A-game for that one... Which is basically the entire cast on both sides of the conflict.

Close second would be when the Orbital elevator purges and you have all the factions mobile suits having a temporary truce and are blasting falling bits of elevator out of the sky in an attempt to lessen the collateral damage from the debris.

Other than 00 however, well let's see here.

Van versus the Dragon slayers in Escaflowne. The fight were he smokes all of them.

Spike vs Vicious... Basically any of the three times, though I think I actually like the Ballad of Fallen Angels fight best of them.

And because I'm a die hard Steampunk afficianado, the Minagith fleet battle from Last Exile, episodes 1 and 2. It might have been totally insane and the fact that the marines shot at eachother with no cover or artillery support was never adequatly explained to my mind, not to mention some horrible dialogue from commander Chivalry MacSidburns Do-Your-Best Johnson the third, it was not only a powerful way to setup the series but just looked friggin spectacular.

Asuka vs. the Japanese Military/MP Evangelions. Short-lived comeback of the era.

Final battle in Zeta Gundam: New Translation movie 1. The scene was almost completely redone and shown some very detailed designs.

Also, Amuro making a high-tech mobile suit retreat with a plane.
