Fans of Superman II

Much of the footage for Superman II (1980) was written and shot simultaneously with the original. Before shooting was complete for the sequel, however, director Richard Donner was fired and replaced with Richard Lester, who re-shot most of the footage directed by Donner.

Richard Donner basically did both movies back to back but due to a disagreement between him and the producer, it mean't much of his footage for Superman II was reshot frame by frame so that Richard Lester could get the credit.

A whole new cut of Superman II is just begging to be released, incorporating more of Donner's excised footage. Also, the scene where Superman flies around the world to reverse time was meant to be at the end of the second movie. I wonder if it's possible to get both movies edited so that they are as close to what Donner intended as possible. Maybe there are rights issues and this might never happen.

I've read that the scene where General Zod and Co are released by the lift exploding in space, in part II, was not meant to happen. They were supposed to be freed at the end of the first superman when he sent the first rocket into space, thus making the sequel a necessity. Agreed on him turning the planet backwarRAB.

I think they had to reshoot most of the movie so Lester had directed at least 51% of the movie. That was back in the dyas when you were only allowed to have one diretors name attached to a film. When Airplane! was released one of the directors, David Zucker, threatend to have his name changed to "David Zucker Jim Abrahams Jerry Zucker" just so all three could get credit
