Fan Problem

Hey guys just got the bike back from dealer I bought it from, Great guy but this is my questions, He did this right inf ront of me, so I know hes not lying. My fan was not coming on so they ordered a new fan sensor, they put it in and warmed the bike up (we don't know how hot the bike got but it was 72f here and I rode it for like 25mins) the fan never came on. So we took the sensor out and heated it with a blow torch (also not knowing how hot that was) but it turned the fan on. I used an infarred temp gauge and got a range from 173-143 LOL big difference but it was from different parts of the radiator. ie, front, side, top side, bottom side etc... Does the fan not come on much? also I noticed, since the weather was hot today lol 70+\- the bike ran awsome, but I just took it out now its about 50+\- after letting it warm up for about 15mins or so, then riding it for about 20minsthe bike has this wierd (almost sounds like intake backfire sound) but its not I can hear it through the gas tank kinda like a pinging noise everyso often, with slight hesatation. could it be since we have the fan wired directly to the ignition the bike isn't getting hot enough on the cool nights? the dealer said that cyclinger was running a little lean but not to worry, and supposly fixed it, being that it didnt do it all day that I rode. well this is quite the book I wrote here so we'll start with that.
thanks guys Ill post some new pics of it asap

Used to have a '84 Honda Magna (still have it, need a motor) and the fan didn't runt on that bike often, either. The fan wouldn't run until the ambient temp was over 85 F. Being Wi, I think it's fair to say we both are dealing with the same weather.

The only odd habit my bike had was that the fan would kick on for about 30 seconds and then shut off, no matter what the temp gauge indicated (it has a temp gauge).

The only thing I could figure is that the fan would shut off when the battery ran low. This was because the only time I noticed the bike would overheat is in stop and go traffic.

I believe you are running into the same problems. The fan won't run often, and when it does, it will be a hot day and you will be at a stop sign.

most rad fans don't turn on when you're riding since the air flow from the bike moving is better than what the little fan could possibly push. my bike has a digital temp gauge, and yesterday when i was riding i noticed that at around 60mph, the engine temp stayed at around 160F. when i get stopped from some good speedy riding, the temp easily goes up to 200F or so for a brief moment - i assume the fans kick on pretty shortly after that

On my M50 it rarely comes on. Now that it is in the upper 80s here in PA during the day, I notice it in stop and go traffic. It comes on for 30 seconds to a min each time then goes off. When driving down the road it never comes on as the air passing the engine is sufficient in cooling the engine. Does it come on even in cooler weather or when you just start the bike?

saw a guy at the local bike meet (poseur session, actually) who wired in a switch - one position if factory wiring so that the ECU controls when the fan comes on, and the other position is hard-wired to have the fans always on. pretty handy since that way, when he knows he's about to be stuck in traffic or something, he flicks it on ahead of time and the fans do their work.

no need to have them ALWAYS on, and there might be times you don't want their constant noise.
