From tmonews. This is great stuff for parents who want to keep control on what their kids are able to do....
About two weeks ago we brought you the news that T-mobile was working on a new family allowance service, and now we're here to bring you some more details. Starting July 30th, parents will be able to add the allowance restrictions add-on to their T-mobile Family Plan. All good things can't come without a catch, right? Right. Well the cost of this add-on will be $2/month, for the whole account. For $2 a month, parents will be able to restrict the number or minutes used, the numbers kids are able to call/not call, and the times calls can and cannot be made. Restrictions can also be placed on text and picture messaging, 411, and chargable downloads. We assume T-mobile is smart enough to let emergency calls go through during restricted times. MyT-mobile.com (T-mobile's online portal for customers) will be updated with a easy-to-use interface for users that are opting to purchase the $2/month restrictions. Parents will also be able to use T-zones to manage this service. Let the parent-teen arguements begin!

Ok where to start. I have 3 lines / Family Plan 2000 minutes. The problem I have is that T-Mobile does not have any type of line separation. Meaning, all 3 lines roll into my Family Plan. Each line has a separate login (phone # then password) but all tie into the same account for plan / services.

I found this out the hard way. My daughter was trying to login to my-t-mobile.com and did not know the password, so she clicked on the link "forgot password" and the password was text'd TO HER PHONE, not mine. She then had access to the entire account!

Will this "family allowance" fix this problem? Otherwise there is no point in me spending $2.00 a month when she can access the account and turn things on / off without me knowing..

And also, you can go into the main account and set which lines can see what info. Each line actually should have it's own log-in and password. I will log in later and see where exactly you need to go to set it up so she doesn't have full access to the account online.

just signed onto it last night and i love it......... my daughter doesnt but who cares .....i pay the bill.........2 thumbs up to tmobile................

LOL! I just signed up too! My daughter doesn't know yet either but at 11pm she will! HAHA I'm tired of her phone ringing at all hours of the night, and yes as parents and paying the bills, we have the right to do what we need.

Thanks TMO for adding this service!

I have a family plan with just two lines for me and my husband, but I have pay as you go for my 2 kids. Should I add them to our family plan and dump the pay as you go? Would they be eligible for 2 new phones? If I do, do I have to pay a $35.00 activation fee for both if they already have a sim card?

they wold be eligible for two new phones if two new numbers were assigned to them however if they keep their prepaid numbers they will not receive any other additional discount but can sign up for a one year contract instead.
