My friend has Fairchild channel since 2000, been paying $15. for the last long while. I noticed the Chinese Fairchild channel is now only $9. since Jan 1, 2009, and even combo w/ Talent is $10., while he pays $15. for "Fairchild". He phoned up today asking if he can get the Fairchild for $9., he was told no. Rep said that it was only for new customers, and the price will go back up to $15. after the customer's contract is up. But I didn't see it anywhere that it was only a promo pricing on the flyer I got.

So any new pricing cannot be applied to old customers? No wonder my friend is cancelling the service.

Is he on an old grandfathered package (eg - legacy) if he's been a customer since 2000? If so, Bell typically will not let you make programming changes without switching first to one of their new pricing packages.

He pays about $55. + taxes with Basic + Children Package (one theme?) + Fairchild, where the Fairchild is being charged at $15. and the Children Package charged at $8. He got the Digital Service Fee credited each month though.

In 2000, he paid $15. or so for Basic, now it's about $3?. So is that legacy? I don't know, I have to ask him.

If he is on Legacy is base will called LOCALS. The bse is currently called DIGITAL STANDARD

If he is the Legacy base he would have a SYSTEM ACCES CHARGE which is, if it didn't go up since I left BellTV, 5.99$.
If he is on Legacy he would also have a SECOND RECEIVER CHARGE, which is 4.99$ if he doesn't have the movies or 2.99$ if he suscribes to movies

Friend said that his invoice shows "Digital Standard", and his Digital Service Fee has a credit of same amount.

So he is not on Legacy? And if not, then why Fairchild cannot be changed to the current $9.?

You got your answer there...

It's probably a promo for new client (or if you prefer incentive to get new clients to sign) and once the promo has expired the price will go back at 15$. When they do promo like those only the clients that with BellTV during that period get the channel at the discounted price

Introductory pricing has been with us for years. A quick look at the bell & rogers web shows Reg price for fairchild is $14.99

Ok, I found the pamphlet that I got at Bell store. the small print says new activation w/ min 2 year contract (I don't know there is a longer contract than 2 year?) and sub to Int'n at time of activation. So I guess I didn't notice it at the time, only read that it is avail. as of Jan 1, 2009.

But then it also didn't say a word about that it is "promo" pricing. If it doesn't say it is promo pricing then it should be regular pricing then? How many kinds of pricing could there be? I know that even regular pricing is subject to increase but promo pricing might change even during a contract if it is not price protected, but regular pricing should?

At least I know that my friend won't get the deal. Well, no big deal, as he has called to cancel anyway (and didn't meet with any retention effort anyway, see other thread for that story).
