fainting

I hope someone can help me get to the cause of this. I get blackout "spells" where I will suddenly feel pressure in my head, get tunnel vision, arms and legs get cold, rest of the body very hot and i begin to sweat, my hair is soaked after an episode, I feel like I am going to pass out, but haven't yet. I quickly sit down and put my head down. Now it doesn't go away until I get to lay down at which point I immediately fall into a deep sleep for 2-3 hours. Upon waking I am perfectly fine again. I told the doctor I sometimes feel like Im going to pass out and he dismissed it without asking about any symptons and called it a normal faint. This is not normal and is beginning to threaten my ability to work. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Could be your blood pressure is low or you have developed postural hypotension....meaning your blood pressure goes down when you get up. See your doc and MAKE him listen. If he doesn't, find a new doc. Remember, we are the consumers, we pay their salaries. Don't get good care...go elsewhere. But find out why before it happens while you are driving. You could be an accident waiting to happen.

Good luck..............Jenny

Thanks Jenny, I've made an appt. for Thurs. with a new doctor. I've got a bp moniter for my son who has high bp, will check mine the next time I have an episode to see if it is low. Thanks again!

I fainted everyday while I was regaining control of my BP, following strokes... and it took almost two years. Until you overcome these low blood pressure episodes, please be very careful, and always mind your head when you feel like you are going down. The biggest problem with fainting are the injuries caused by falling. The brain resets itself after fainting, so take you time getting up...in your case the sleep is probably needed for your brain to reset.

Very low blood pressure can be raised on the spot with the intake of salty soups, or other high sodium foods. This is a temporary solution, as BP is raised quickly with sodium intake, not to be used except in extreme situations.

Please keep us posted...
