has anyone has intense burning in their feet, groin and buttocks after back fusion. I had surgery at L5S1 4 years ago and have had this burning pain in the above-mentioned areas since surgery. It would flare up when I worked my back too hard - then mellow. But recently it has flared up and is so painful. My doc took a Cat Scan and said the bone didn't fuse properly and so he wants to go in and place an anchor through my butt and into the bone and the cage that was place between the verterbrae. He said it is a 2 -3 week recovery time. But now my hanRAB are burning as well so I don't know what to think. Any ideas

I have a failed surgery that was done 14 years ago. I get the burning, groin pain, itching, nurabness, and it gets worse as I push.

What was done to me was a lamenectomy (some spelling is wrong I am not a Dr) fusion L4-L5 L5-S1 discecomy, and instrumentation for those levels. I also have trouble walking at times. They wanted to go back in but I lost faith in the surgeon and no other Dr wanted me as a patient so I am on my own.

As for the hand burning sensation that sounRAB like a neck problem.

As for the fusion you have that failed I do not think they could do anything for that. The cage That is a tough situation. I do think I would go to another Dr for a consult just bring any and all films with you. I would not bring reports unless he request them.

If you decide not to have an additional surgery (I always felt that if the first one did not work then a second or third will not) then I would suggest pain management. Nerve pain can be controlled I am on Neurontin for the nerve pain Napoxen for the arthritis I ended up with and Morphine for the pain.

I still have pain when I push hard (yep still stupid LOL) and I need to rest some but I do get around. No bungy jumping even though I tell the Dr's I do lol

Like I said it is up to you but I know I would get another opinion as to what could possibly be done. I will say this when I went for another opinion I was dumped by the Dr I was seeing (not the surgeon)

Make sure you get any copies of any and ALL reports and X-Rays. You are entitled to them. Also get your surgical reports just in case you need them.

Hope this helps
