fafsa question financial aid?

can i use all of the fafsa money in 1 semester? and forget about the second semester of the school year? for example my classes come up to 4000 for this fall and i got a award of 5350 so does that mean im getting a check for 1350 or does that money get cut in half for the school year for each semester so would i end up having to pay the extra of the half for the semester
