Hi, I have had image guided cortisone and radiofrequency neurotomy which hasn't worked. I am to see a Surgeon in 2 weeks re a spinal fusion. Even though I am in massive pain I am reluctant to undergo this surgery. Can I have some feedback please on what other options there may be, and also re spinal fusion of T(9,10,11). I live alone and I am 48.

Have you done ANY research at all on the types of surgery procedures offered? Research them all and if any pique your curiosity present them to your surgeon and if he or she are worth their weight in salt this person will take the time to go over the pros and cons. Find out what you can about your surgeon, how long he's been doing this, is he accredited (we have that Board in the USA) and where he went to school, also ask around check out his patients they'll give you an honest appraisal of this person. My fusion was in the lower lurabar area but if wait more people will respond and give you more and detailed info related to your specific situation. What I'm telling you are just the basics. I know surgery is scary but sometimes it works out fine. It was all the tests and needles that scared the begeebees out of me not the surgery! I'm sorry I sort of missed the whole question that you had regarding options! You'll have to be a bit more specific will the problems you have, bulging discs, DDD, ect. certain things can be done for certain ailments. I had a friend who had a tines stimulator placed in her spine which helped but I read that putting it there was most painful and in the end she was fused in four places. Don't mean to scare you but I too tried alternate methoRAB before resulting in surgery but all they did was slow my path to the OR. Not sure this is what you wanted to hear. But if your looking for temporary measures I'm sure they're out there. I've become a pro on the internet and I'm sure you can find loaRAB of info if you look. Best wishes and blessings, I know you'll find what works for you.

Thanks for replying. I am in Australia and surgery has not been mentioned until now. I will research after I have consulted, I guess posting here is part of that. I am just one year out from other major surgery so I am pretty reluctant to take another one on, and as I said I live alone so more isolation terrifies me as well as just not having any help
around my home, particularly since I have just come out of that very situation....But, I can't work with this pain so if I don't find an answer I will lose my home. Reading, it seems that fusion is only 50% successful and may worsen things so I amcertainlyvery concerned about what is best for my future. Thanks for replying, I hope others may be able to enlighten me a bit more also...

Hi - please look up this NEW procedure for facet joint fusion that does not require hardware. I had this procedure three months ago - and while recovery has been longer than I hoped - I've gone from a usual 8/9 pain to a minimal 3 to 4, with a zero still hopeful. Here's the web site: www. * removed link *. Good luck!
