Facebook Chat Question?

Sometimes someone will say hi to me and if i try to talk and say hi or something it wont send. Rarely it sends,but it usually doesent...
Oh and if i use the Pop-out chat one(the big chat screen) it works but its kinda a pain..
 
Maybe your internet is slow? It usually happens to me when my internet is slow.
