face wound treatment question?

I have wound on my chin, it was a sort of a pimple and it got really messed up. i've had the wound for about 5 days now(it's about half a cm wide and long) and it didn't bleed at all, it did grow a yellow scab ( at least i think it was a scab) because i didn't cover it. while it had the scab i moisturized it daily and put ointment on it. the scab was very thin and i was worried it might be infected ( cause it was yellow and the skin around the wound was red) plus it was very close to the skin level - you might even say it was under it. so i used some techniques like warm water and salty sea water to gently remove the scab. well now i've put ointment and covered it up. it did itch much more when it had the scab than now. but i'm still worried that it won't heel. i'm pretty sure it's back the same as it was when it wounded except for the fact that it looks much healthier, there isn't red all around it. so will it heal? how should i treat it? should it stay covered? it looks like there are small cuticles or pores or sweat glands or something on it. i'm sure it's just the epidermis that's damaged cuz it didn't bleed or anything and frankly it's not deep. sorry it's a long question.
