I have found out that i have dust and mold allergies. My eyes are always sore, and slightly swollen. I find that they are DRY.....not watery like most eye allergies tend to be. Does anyone else have dry eyes? I have just been put on Zaditor eye drops. I hope something works, because i haven't been feeling too well for over a year. Thanks :)

Where do you live? i run a humidifier in my living room (where i spend most of my time) and one in my bedroom at night. That helps a lot with my eyes and sinus dryness.

Have you been tested for food intolerances? not sure if they show up in blood tests or not. I am wheat/gluten intolerant.. it doesn't necessarily cause dryness, but my face is soo puffy and i'm fatigued right now. I broke down and had some pizza from my favorite shop this past weekend. Probably would have been ok if i didn't continue to eat the leftovers!

sounRAB like you need to focus on the "dry eye" therapy! I second the humidifier, that helps. Always keeps drops with you. The preferred drops are the ones in individual vials as they do NOT contain any preservatives. My doctor has talked to me about getting the punctal plugs as someone else mentioned, but I seem to manage so I'm not going to try those (although to note there are TWO reasons for dry eye, one is not enough tear production, the other is if your eyes drain the moisture too fast in which the plugs are most affective, which is what I have). There are also eye masks on the market you can search for which have moisture paRAB in them to wear at night to prevent your eyes from drying as well.

good luck!

It's amazing how many of us are suffering from this problem. Make sure your furnace has a cold air intake. ( I think that's what it's called). This is when cold outdoor air is being sucked through the furnace and is distributed through the house as well as the heat. I know you've tried everything, so I'm going to give you a few extras to consider. I went to a chiropractor recently and I am now taking ProBiotics. This regulates your digestive system to improve and strengthen your IMMUNE function. (This is why we get ill.....our immune systems are out of whack). You sound super sensitive to air like I am, and what we have to do now is work at making our insides healthy. Probiotics take the 'good' bacteria' to kill off the 'bad bacteria' in our systems. I have also been drinking plenty of water, 8-10 cups a day. This helps flush the system. Cod liver oil is also another excellent idea. Omega 3 is essential for eye health and overall well-being. Chiropractic care helps the body heal itself. This may sound weird, but when your spine is properly aligned, the nervous system is able to deliver signals to it's full potential. I know all this is a very different approach, but I'm trying to use logic. HEAL from the INSIDE. I understand how you feel, hang in there!!! Have a great day :)

I have VERY dry eyes and am on two different drops, but my allergies are VERY bad. I don't know if you are seeing an allergist or a general man. If you are seeing a general man, please have him give you a referral to a good allergist and have the allergist run tests. Make sure his tests are thorough in the sense that the skin test is done for everything. If you need injections, please don't refuse them because they have saved my life. Good luck.

Preservative free artificial tears can be used as often as you wish. They can help to wash out the allergens for people with dry eyes, as well as alleviate the dryness temporarily. I use Bion Tears. If your eyes are really red and swollen, using a cold compress can help immensely with the swelling, itching/burning, and redness.

In addition to seeing an allergist to get allergy treatment, I also see a good opthamologist. He treats the dry eye side of things. I got punctal plugs which help some. Restasis also helps quite a bit, but it is very expensive so I had to stop after a year. In addition to the Zaditor and other allergy treatments, I frequently use "natural tear" eye drops throughout the day. You can use them as often as needed. My favorite brand for this is Refresh. by Allegran. They have the Refresh brand and others that are similar at any store that sells OTC drugs.

I have been to an allergist, and do have allergies to dust and mold. But this isn't the cause of my eye troubles. I have blepharitis, which they say is skin related. (Rosacea - which I had treated with IPL). Even though my rosacea is under control, my eyes still really hurt, and the liRAB are always swollen. I hope to get back to normal some day :)

I have been suffering from allergies for about a year now. Never had allergies before and I'm desperate at this point. I am allergic to mold and dust and it's affecting my eyes to the point where I just want to rip them out. My eyes constantly itch and are red all of the time. I've had three eye infections because it's impossible to not rub them. I look like an alcoholic that drinks 24 hours a day. I've been getting allergy shots, once a week, have used several drops including tobramycin, alrex, ciprodex, optivar, and patanol and nothing seems to work with the exception of taking benadryl then I just want to sleep. Today I'm going to go see my primary physician and request something else is done. At this point I'm depressed and erabarrassed about the way I look.
If anyone has any suggestions please advise.

I had a university eye specialist who is one of the leading experts in the state tell me that Flaxseed Omega 3's are much more effective than the fish oil type for dry eye. Might be worth considering.

Good suggestion Mountain... I might have to try that. Fish oil tablets never "agreed" with me anyways. (I can eat a ton of fish, love it, but the tablets not so good!)

I've had dry, red swollen eyes since about 2003 and have tried EVERYTHING...I found that Genteel eye drops and gel helped me more than any prescription eye drops. I've been to so many doctors and specialists with very little luck!
I do agree with the previous post about the flaxseed oil, it does provide some relief but, you have to be religious about taking it. I can recommend "Udo's oil", however the thing that has worked the best for me is juicing as I posted previously.
Carrots are great and I noticed relief within 2 days, my eyes are now WHITE and no pressure or swollen cornea that will pool over my lower lid when I move my eyes, no swollen achy eyes when I wake up in the morning!
I haven't used any eye drops in over 6 months!!!! ( I used them all day long before I started juicing about one bottle every 2 weeks).
I have a new lease on life!
