Extreme Ghostbusters, Ten years later..

I'm curious as too what everyone thinks of this series..

I'm finally getting around to duping my TV tapes to hard disk...since I doubt it'll ever be released on DVD. However, watching it from start to finish, I wonder what everyone thinks?

Favorite episdoes - Darkness at noon, Casting the Runes,
Infernal Machine, The Unseen, Be Careful what you wish for,
Jersey Devil, Ghost Apocalyptic Future, and at least ten others...

The cast: Other than the fact that I wish they didn't add Garret and Kyle the way they did to try and fit every demographic, the cast meshes well together. Eduardo is probably my favorite, if only because his voice actor seems too have so much fun in reading the scripts.. The Guy who played Roland was also on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Will Smiths TV Cousin. I knew his voice sounded familair, so I looked him up :).

The designs... Some of the humans just look ugly, the non main cast members that is. I don't like the color changes too the inside of the ecto 1. The red makes it look rusty. Same goes for all the dark colors of the fire house, there's no light too it. The new proton packs are OK, but I miss the old designs :)..

Who owns the DVD rights to the show, DIC or Sony? If it's the former, we'll sadly see this series (most likely from Shout Factory) released before The Real Ghostbusters.

I heard it was Sony who owns them. Mainly because unlike the preceeding series EXG made actual references to pop culture rather than parodies.

yeah, I think it is Sony, because the times square Jumbo Tron actually had the real company name on..

So that's why EGB could make so many sufferances to Letterman and Oprah, along with a few other series? You actually need permission for that? Wow, that's sad :)..

The guy who plays Eduardo is Rino Romano, better known as the titular character in the newest incarnation of "The Batman."

This was a pretty cool show considering it was more or a less a syndicated throwaway, a tie-in to a revival that never came about. The staff obviously did their homework and included more than a few continuity nods to the original series, including bringing back the old cast for the finale. I recall thinking there was one too many demonic possession stories, and the tone in hindsight was darker than RGB. But it's still a perfectly valid extension of the GB universe, which can't always be said for a show with "extreme" in the title.

Extreme Ghostbusters was one of my favorite shows next to Extreme Dinosaurs, its got good action & the reason why I love the show is because of the cool/interesting & freaky monsters:D with many fascinating designs & my favorite villains are those 3 zombie things, The Grundel(from old school GBs), The Devil Bug, Surt, The Evil Leprechaun(who reminds me from the movie Leprechaun), The Trolls, The Sphinx, The Demon Clowns, Tempus, & Sam Hain(from the intro opening). As much I loved the villains, those scary clowns totally gave me nightmares from that episode, but they're still cool & I loved the ending credits part where it shows all the big bad ghosts, but that ghost with the tophat in the 1st part(not the mouth-bellied one) that I saw would of been a great villain in the show. Eduardo is also my favorite character but I kind of feel sorry for him when he doesn't get respect from the others sometimes.

While I am willing to give this series another chance( I sort of had a prejudice against it from the start), I did NOT like the version of animation they did, thought the artwork overall looked atrocious, and thought Roland was the closest thing to the Ghostbusters "attitude"...and even then, he utterly flopped. Almost like punk versions of the Ghostbusters....

I just SERIOUSLY wanted to beat Garrett BAD..........

Keep waiting. The snotys at Sony don't think anything that isn't a horrible sitcom or a crappy special edition version of a movie no one saw in theaters is more important than a "Kiddy show." Yes, one of the most successful kiddy shows based off a movie franchise.

That said, know what really ruined EGB? The name. There was nothing Extreme about them. They just shoved a buzz word into the title to garner ratings from groups of kids that thought everything had to be extreme. And as so, quite a few Ghostbusters fans turned away from it. I really think "Ghostbusters: the New Class" or "The Next Gerneration" would have worked better. Shame, because this show was pretty amazing in its own right. Slimer acted more like his movie persona, call backs to the earlier series, and then the original GB's fighting along side the new class... all and all, I really enjoyed the series, and thought it could have held up to the first one. But just the name.... that turned a lot of people off.

NO, the fact that in the late '90s, everyone and their 2nd cousin twice removed was jumping on the "let's update a classic '70s or '80s show, and completely disgrace the franchise" bandwagon turned off a lot of people.

They could've called the show Ghostbusters: the New Gang, and I would've been turned off back then. Like I said, I'm giving the show another chance now, but that hideous animation DOES NOT HELP. Look at the animation that Real Ghostbusters had- it really holds up. And the "attitude"- I mean, basically, the Ghostbusters are four guys; not big strong muscle-bound guys, or superheroes- just four smart guys who know how to take out ghosts. Extreme Ghostbusters was given a PC "Diverse" cast..for the sake of being diverse. I'll say it again- I can barely stand Garrett. He's like Ray Stantz, with NO redeemable qualities. As I used to tell my friend "if I could get my hands on Garrett, he wouldn't JUST be handicapped...." We even watched the show, hoping to watch his wheelchair rocket backward, when he fired the plasma blaster...oh yeah, and that reminds me...REFILLABLE PLASMA BLASTERS?! What was wrong with neutrona blasters? Ok, so they needed to be touched up...plasma is more powerful? Is this some kind of joke? Another thing to consider- Egon's their mentor...but RAY leaves? Um...correct me if I'm wrong but Ray was the HEART of the Ghostbusters...he was probably more dedicated to the cause than anyone else....and HE leaves?! Did I happen to mention that the show even starts off in the most cliched way possible- with all four to-be Ghostbusters waiting for Dr. Spengler in their college class?

See, what really gets to me about this serious is that it's obvious Sony had no real desire to put much effort into it. Yeah, I'm giving the series another chance, but there are SO many reasons it just doesn't hold up to The Real Ghostbusters. Even the LAST TWO SEASONS of The Real Ghostbusters hold up better in quality to this- I'm sorry, but it has to be said.

It's almost like the higher ups at Sony, upon hearing the idea for Extreme Ghostbusters, responded as such: "WHAT?! An 'Extreme' version of Ghostbusters?! *snicker*...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....ahhhhhhhhh...a'right, a'right...here's 5 bucks, go out and promote it"

You can't deny that even the current version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- even the short- lived new Masters of the Universe series was given more to work with, and came out better, because of it. I won't get into that disaster Turtles: the Next Mutation, but my point is it's just like Sony did not have their heart into the Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon, and sadly- it shows.

On one hand the animation was good, I liked it, especially the use of dark colors. On the other hand it was the personification of the Five Token Band. And on some hand Garrett was a nice idea, but bordered on ridiculous even in a show where they fought the supernatural. I mean how could he wield that gun and move/dodge at the same time. O well, still liked it.

You liked that retarted "flashing" effect whenever they fired their plasma blasters? You enjoyed the containment unit having gone from looking like some cool otherwordly dimension in RGB to a sewer system in EGB? You liked going from an anime style look to almost halfway passable American animation?

If it weren't for the decent stories I remember- and the fact that it IS Ghostbusters....and that for some reason I like the toys- I don't know HOW I'd be ever giving this show another chance.

Actually I take back the holding up the the original bit. But at least Slimer didn't go off on his own adventures. And I'm not even talking 'bout the Slimer segments, either. Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters where he was able to talk and mug the camera half the time... no thanks. No thanks. I actually like how he was closer to the movie.

Plus, wasn't this Sony's first venture into cartoons after Real Ghostbusters? Then Men In Black came a little later?

The original toon had two good seasons, 1, and 2, then stunk still the last season when J. Michael did some serious retconning and attempting to return the show to its roots.

The TMS art blows away the remake art. Look at the Chutulu ep. There's such a neat contrast between the cartoonish GB designs and the more realistic squid monsters (looking more along the lines of horrors from late night DVD's) that you just don't find in stuff today. EB had none of that.
