Explain this joke: "My mother told me to catch 5 fish. So I caught 5. I caught 25!"?

My friend tells this joke and it makes no sense to me:

"My mother told me to go catch five fish.
So I went and caught five.
I caught TWENTY-five!"
Also:
It might be a kid's joke, and it might have some sort of relation to math.

r u sure ur friend didnt make it up...cuz i never heard of it b4...
 
All I can think of is that the kid didn't really lie to his mother, because there is a five in the number of fish he caught. Like "Yeah, I caught five..... TWENTY five".
I'm not sure, since that's not so funny, but who knows...
