An exit poll by Gea/Isa had the PRI candidate Enrique Peña Nieto with 42% support versus 31% for leftist candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador and 23% for Josefina Vazquez Mota, the candidate from President Felipe Calderón's ruling party.
A survey by El Universal newspaper had similar results, with 42% for Mr. Peña Nieto, 31% for Mr. López Obrador and 24% for Ms. Vazquez Mota.
Another exit poll by BGC/Excelsior showed Mr. Peña Nieto winning 40%, compared to 30% for Mr. López Obrador and 25% for Ms. Vazquez Mota.
The results were in line with pre-election polls which predicted a broad victory for Mr. Peña Nieto, a 45-year-old former state governor.
Preliminary official results were due later on Sunday.
Mexicans voted for president, a new congress, new mayors across the country and six governorships.
