Exhaust Wraps

nearly positive I'm getting exhaust wraps (fiberglass) for my 996, the heat just kills.

Someone suggested 1" for better wrapping control but that seems REALLY small, esp with 1/4 - 1/2" overlap. Anyone with experience?

Gonna wrap em white. Opening the clutch with a red plate, black open cover.

Why don't you look at ceramic coating the pipes instead? Much easier and cleaner looking with the same benefits of up to 35% heat reduction. Go to jet-hot.com for more info, I will definitely be doing mine soon. However if you like the wrapped look, go for it!

yeah I do like the wrapped look and the fact that if for any reason I wanted to undo it I could. Also saves me money on shipping them my stuff.

I don't have any personal experience with this but I've heard that it's possible for the wraps to discolor your pipes if they get wet while hot.

I'd go with ceramic coating.. it just logically seems like it would work a lot better.

The reason is, it traps moisture next to the pipe.
Or so I've been told, it also will make a pipe burn out faster because it doesn't allow the heat to escape as it
does on a naked pipe.

Ceramic is the best way to go I think, I plan on doing mine this winter. Airborne Coatings is a possible source.
Charlotte is near so that's where I'm going..

What do you want to know? I've had mine on over a year now and It's holding up well. The graphite is wearing off a bit but it still keeps the heat at bay. Yes it takes more wrap using the 1" with 1/2 over lap but it's much easier to work with. Remember to have the rolls of wrap in a tub of water, it'll make it easier to work with and keep the graphite dust down. Good luck, PM me if you need any help.
