exhaust/TPS reset question

Well I finally think I am gonna bite the bullet and upgrade my exhaust. I am planning on a full system and changing to the DP race ECU. Anyway, I think I can do all that myself. I here that the TPS needs to be reset at the dealer after doing so. My dealer is about 50 miles away. How shitty does it run w/o having the TPS reset? I was thinking I might try and install everything myself at home to save money then drive the bike down to the dealer to have the TPS reset. That is of course, if it will be ok. Otherwise I need to rent a trailer and all that to lug the bike down with my car, which I would rather not do If I can help it.

Modding ducatis sure is a pain in the dick I've found out like 3 days after I bought mine.
I would assume that it would run safely (afr & such) just weird throttle response.

I would do it reguardless and ride it and if it was dangerously bad then stop and trailer it

The reason you set the TPS is so that the ECU knows the degree of the throttle plates. If you don't set the TPS and the ECU thinks the throttle plates are closed (which they are never totally closed) but they are really open 10% you are going to have some issues for sure. No matter where the throttle is the ECU is going to be giving fuel as if it is 10% more. Definitely isn't going to idle correctly when it isn't on an idling map!

you have to try.
sometimes you can't even run the bike it's not smooth and i doesn't run very well.
sometimes you can't feel the difference and doing the tps is only a way to feel safe.
Past week i swapped my 1198 ecu with an 1198s' to allow the dtc work. The bike ran very well, no issues...however i did the tps reset yesterday just to feel better
The dealer didn't charge anything...is a 10 minutes operation (removing left fairing, attach the dds, dialing for 5 minutes, unplug the dds, put the fairing back on).

"How shitty does it run w/o having the TPS reset?"

I just did a full termi on my 1098 with DP ECU in December. After much research here, I decided to ride 50 miles to the dealer for the TPS reset. I had no issues on the ride.
I would also suggest checking the air/fuel mix while it is there. My bike is not nearly as smooth as before and the exhaust has a more "gassy" smell to it. She stinks up the garage after a ride. My clothes smell like I rode in the Termi exhaust cans. I have found a few other posts with guys having the same problem. It was not like this prior to the full Termi install. It now idles at 1650 rpm. I guess I will be making another trip to the dealer when I get back from overseas for more tweaking.

Thanks for the replies guys. I do plan on having the TPS done, but it would just make life easier if I could ride it down after the install. So we'll see. Eventually I would like to add a PCV into the mix as well, but I don't see any good maps as of right now for the 1198S on their site, and I don't have a dyno nearby.

don't worry.
install everything and ride to your dealer...there might be a "Holes" at low rpm (2000-3000) but you can easily reach the dealer...
if he ask you more than 20 bucks, change dealer next time...

p.s.: do not install any pcV or RB3...the DP ecu is more than enough
