Exercising once a week: useless?

Hello, I'm 14 years old, and currently trying to gain muscle in my thighs, because I can put my hands completely around them, (just barely). Anyways, there's an extremely intense hiking trail in Vancouver, BC, called the Grouse Grind; it's appropriately nicknamed the "stair-master". I'm only doing this once a week, (Saturday mornings), because I don't have time for it any other day of the week. I was wondering if training only once a week will actually get me results, or is completely useless, due to training only once a week not being intense enough. All help is appreciated, thanks.
