Exercising and weight gain!?

Recently started doing some exercise, through pushups, sit ups running etc. The whole purpose was to lose weight, however ive noticed that ever since i started exercising my appetite has increased massively and im putting on weight not only by noticing on the scale but also the mirror, and this is not muscle its fat, why is this the case, considering my nutrition isnt so bad
