I'm a hairdresser, so I bend over and raise my arms a lot. I have had a terrible rotator cuff injury that has been with me for over a year now and my shoulder feels like a ratchet when I raise and lower my arm. I have done yoga, work out at the gym, and see my chiropractor on a regular basis. These always seem to help for a temporary fix; however, it always seems to catch up with me.
My chiropractor appointments started out being twice a week. We were making a lot of progress and limited it down to once a month. However, today I went in early because I woke up in terrible pain and couldn't move my head to the left. He sent me over to get X-rays of my neck and found that it looks more straight (there should be a slight curve). I was informed that this is brought on by my bad posture as my shoulders are more forward than they should be.
Does anyone have any good tips to stretch or excersise to keep my back in check and shoulders back? I fear that when I go to the gym and use the weights, I may be doing it improperly, thus harming my shoulders and neck rather than helping (it is a small gym and the staff never seems to be around to coach). Any tips would be much appreciated!
