Excessive, intrusive hunger - 17 years old.

I am a 17 year old female, 5'6", and I am thin (but not grossly thin).

Lately I have been experiencing excessive hunger. I will eat what used to be a satisfying meal only to feel hunger pangs as little as 10 minutes later (but on average, 15-20 minutes later).

This is not a result of boredom. I will experience this in the middle of an intriguing activity and it is consuming my mind. Nothing satisfies my hunger for more than 20 minutes. I wake up in the middle of the night with pangs.

I feel like I have been starving for days.

I don't think I am losing weight.

Could I be growing? Should I listen to my body or might I gain weight if I eat a lot (I eat very healthy foods though)? Is this a medical problem?

Hi...

I think you are smart to listen to your body, especially at your age, and with no issues with weight. You are in the time of your life that you are still growing brain cells, and as long as you give your mind and body good nutritious foods...then eat up! Make a point to always have fruits, veggies, and nuts to snack on, and always listen to your body and your soul...They will not let you down.

I wish you well...

Thank you. I don't have issues with weight but I don't want to gain weight because my body doesn't really "need" the calories that I think it does. I just feel too hungry for my own good and it's beginning to wear me down. Food is not fun anymore. It's just a chore to try and shovel in enough for an hour's peace.

Have you been checked to make sure that you don't have a parasite or a tape worm? I know that it sounds (eeeuuuwww) gross, but it would account for the constant hunger and the lack of weight gain.....

just a thought.....
