vicky parker, will you give me more examples???thanks for the examples lately..it helps me a lot...
 
- Japan isolated itself from the world in the 1500s (check date for accuracy Im just guessing on this) and could do so effectively because it was an island
-Australia has never had an internal war due to the fact that it is an island and isolated
-Ancient Eygpts civilisation was dependent on the flux and flow of the Nile
-Mesopatamia grew up in the so-called fertile crescent at the head of the Tigris because it was a nice fertile piece of land
