I'm doing a paper on Julius Caesar and I need examples from history where people who have power abuse it, going well beyond the established boundaries for their position.
Thanks
:)

The one standing out to me most is Abraham Lincoln. He suspended Habeus Corpus, and virtually rendered the Constitution a worthless piece of Crap. Granted he did do it during the American Civil War, many people support him (as a national hero, and forget he ever did this).

Andrew Jackson (while my favourite president), abused his power. He took his presidency as a chance to wipe-out/relocate the Indians. Causing the famed Trail of Tears.

(Oddly enough, Lincoln was the first Republican, and Jackson the first Democrat, lol)

Those are 2 examples.

Dictators are all about control and paranoia
ergo
Idi Amin and many African dictators
Hitler
Saddam Hussein
Mao Tse Tung
The Borgias
Note* Dictators are forever having their huge pictures all over the place and frequently adopt paternal names like Dada or Uncle or Father (as if) and are frequently mass murders to boot.

King Henry 8th--wanted to marry someone else and, being Catholic, needed to get an annulment to do that (since he couldn't, as a Catholic, get a divorce.) Tried to bully the Pope into it; he wouldn't do it. Henry started his own religion so he could re-marry--not once, but four more times (sometimes after beheading them.)

Hitler

Stalin

Madoff

Nixon (re: Watergate scandal)

DEFINITELY McCarthy and his hearings in 1954
