Every time I enter/try to enter a new cheat in my gameshark for playstation2,...

...the game freezes any suggestions? i bought the gameshark from wal-mart today and its version is 1.3 and my ps2 is scph-30001 R serial starts with F
any help?
The version saved on the memory card is v5, but the disc says V1.3
 
this happens, it happened to mine, my ds, my friend's ds.
So i bought a new one and it's functioning properly.
GO BUY A NEW ONE!
