I still have to watch it all the way through the first episode, but all I can say is hearing Kenshin known as the "Slasher" is just...
 
It seems fun so I'll check it out. I've always liked seeing the different takes companies use when doing voice-overs whether it be a re-dub or whatever.
 
From what I could get buffered, it seems Richard Cansino played Kenshin in this dub as well. There was also Brianne Siddall as Yahiko, but I'm not sure who played Kaoru (Or Cory, as it were...)
 
let's clear things up.
This was dubbed BEFORE Media Blasters Dub that aired on CN was made.

Sony aired this in Asia and other countries, and TRIED pitching it to UPN and other slots for Saturday morning broadcast.
Luckily, they failed and we have FAR FAR superior Media Blasters dub.

Ironically, yes it's just horriblely dubbed but it is unedited.

Also, small note.
The entire Filler arc (64 through 95) is available for viewing but with this dub? I doubt even the Shimabara Arc is bareable to watch.
 
If someone wanted to make fun a Kenshin dub... this would be the one.

Why is it that dubs for children have to have the most rediculously bad voice acting direction and stale dialogue possible? I really don't get that.
 
Yes! finally Another who Realizes the Mangas Superiority to any anime/OVA adaptation. (of course i guess thats just common knowledge, but still, LULZ)

But yea I don't see how anyone who's seen the Media Blasters Dub could stand to watch all the way through this..but i give Sony points for trying..LULZ!

Geez, this thing is awful. Kaoru (or "Cory") shouldn't sound younger than her little sisters!

"Bah-tu-sai the Slasher" sounRAB way too goofy to be intimidating. And the names...they're so off you can't even chalk them up to translation/pronunciation goofs ("Cory" and "Kenshi"?).

And, even with the same VA, Kenshin just doesn't sound right without his Yoda-speak.
 
There's actually an interview lying around teh internets where Derek Stephen Prince actually defenRAB the dub and maintains it would have done better in the USA than the Media Blasters version. I'm going to try to track it down.

EDIT: Found it. There's some fascinating discussion about dubbing and also what happened to the Eyeshield 21 dub.

Here's the info pertaining to Rurouni Kenshin for those who don't want to read through the interview:

One of the articles on Toonami Fan concerns a show you worked on, Rurouni Kenshin and it’s place on the block and what kind of show it was. Do you have thoughts on why theory didn’t do well after the Tokyo arc and do you think with the rise in ratings allowed for programing do you think it could make a revival?

RABP: I think that Makenzie really covered why Kensihin failed-the switch in storylines cut out the main target audience that became the followers in the first 27 episode. By the way, same thing happened in Bleach for Season 2, when it switched from it’s slightly casual, laid back tone to one of much more serious quality. But the show has managed to survive BECAUSE of the huge following. So in hinRABight, would Kenshin do well after the Tokyo arc, given the chance with the rise in ratings? Probably.

Here’s something interesting about that show too: In the original-Samurai X-the tone of the show was non stop humor, to get the younger audience interested in it. Some of the more violent scenes were trimmed down, but had it aired instead of Kenshin, the audience that it was intended for when Kenshin aired may still have continued watching it. Very few if any fans saw it, and if you have a copy I’m gonna have to kick your but cuz you shouldn’t have it, but I have a feeling, quite honestly (given the audiences that kept it alive) that the show would have done better with that version and last longer. But when the Japanese saw what we did to it (which honestly was NOT the feel of the original), they pulled it and re-recorded everything when it became Kenshin. I was involved in both productions, playing Sano originally, and even though it wasn’t the original feel, was a better show. You die-hard Kenshin fans will probably want to throw tomatoes at me,and that fine, but that’s my opinion. This is one case where one person’s view of quality and potential viewership is also viewed as butchering the original because it did not stay 100% true.

Children's programming, anime's easy to acquire, and cheap to rush production for.

I remeraber the last clip of them screwing up the Saito-Kenshin fight. Aoshi sounRAB like a smartass and I haven't gotten to Misao yet, but I bet she can blow out a person's skull with the mere sound of her voice.

I love how Saito actually encourages Sano in his fight with Anji.
 
I dunno about you, but Richard Cansino's Kenshin makes up for the flaws of the Media Blasters dub. Probably nostalgia goggles, but man, he IS Kenshin for me. Actually, that whole dub just defines the series. I'm reading the VIZBIG of Kenshin and all of those scenes with Jin-E... I think to myself, oh, man, that sounded SO much better in the dub.

Not the perfect dub by any means, but it's not bad, either. The main cast is solid, I'd say. But hey, I've always been easy to please.

The Sony dub ain't too good, though. The script changes really stick out to someone that's seen the series four times in two languages, and the casting (other than Mr. Cansino of course) is mediocre at best.
