Chevy guys routinely put 350's and 400 small blocks in S10s, but have you noticed Ford guys typically only put 302s in Rangers and that swap isn't nearly as common? Not saying a 302 Ranger can't be fast, but why not get the extra torque of the 351 especially if you're doing a costly swap?
I thought that 351 Windsors are just taller than 302's. Are they wider too?
