Ever had to sleep in a car?

Has anyone here ever had to sleep in a car? I (by reasons my own) had to last weekend, and couldn't find a comfortable position. :thumbsdn: .. and to skip the rant, the question at the bottom is: where have you found is the most comfortable position to sleep in a car?

I first tried jusy laying the driver seat as flat as it would go, but I couldn't extend my legs the way I wanted to and the seat was slanted down, so I kept sliding down.

Second, I tried the back seat ... longer and flatter, right? Well, long enough if you're >5'2" ... anybody taller than that will have a damned hard time fitting.

Third, I folded down the back seats (opening the cabin of the car to the trunk) and stuck my legs in there. It was flat, I could lie fully extended, and I was, for the most part, comfortable; but the floor of the trunk is hard, and so after about 15 minutes of lying like that, I got sore ... so I pretty much just lied there until morning when I could go where I needed to go (again, reasons I'll keep to myself)

So, where have you found is the most comfortable position to sleep in a car?
 
I like lying in the backseat with my back propped against one of the windows, and my feet on the seat. But that was in my Lumina. The other ride was better if you were in the front passenger seat, with the seat tilted back as far as it could go. You could lay almost any way you wanted. :thumbsup:

It's different in each vehicle, so what are you cruising in?

I like to lower the back seats and lie half on them and half in the trunk. I don't find it overly uncomfortable. However, I keep a sleeping bag and a travel pillow in the car for just that purpose. (among others) ;) Works just fine for me.

The hard part is finding somewhere safe to park. Any suggestions on that while we're on the subject?
 
Safe places to park would be at a truck stop (no one would fuck with you there), or a joint that's open all night. Just as long as you're away from the eyes of anyone working there that might start shit, then you're good to go. Cars in empty parking lots is never good, and I assume you might get freaked out if you're in an empty alley, or in the woods (if you've any).

I dunno though, depends on how you feel about the situation. :thumbsup:
 
I hadn't thought of that. There're always campers parked in the lot of the Wal-Mart, and nobody seems to fuck with them. I have a car alarm so I don't worry too much, but safer is better of course.

No problem. Just trying to help a fellow poster with my worthless knowledge of being kicked out of my home a few times. You know who you are woman. :mad: You can't kick me out anymore though. :thumbsup:
 
The best way that I've found is your head in the drivers seat. yourr body is streached across the front seat with the passenger side seat back layed down all the way. You curl up facing the rear of the car with your knees on the passanger seat. Make sure you tuck in all the seatbelt buckels and tilt the stearing wheel up all the way.

Havoc, how long was the back seat of the car you were in?

Switch, what did you do about the joint between the back of the seat and the trunk? The joint/hinge in my car stuck in my ribs.
 
It was a Lumina, so it was pretty spacious. My feet didn't touch the other side of the car. But remember, you've got to prop yourself up. :thumbsup:
