EV-DO / 3G Cricket?

I was curious how would you know if evdo was being used by cricket at what ever time it happens? would it require a new prl or such?

I ask because my ppc 6600 say im connected via icon pop-up 3g most of the time. once in a while it will drop switch to the 1x icon.
 
It will usually show either "1x", "3G", or "Ev". Also a speed test can tell you what your using to connect. When EvDo come's out you'll need to *228 once you have EvDo on your account. This will give you an EvDo PRL which a few people have.
 
im a little confused. isnt 3g a type of ev-do?

i am sure i am not at 3g speed. just curious why i am getting differnt icons in differnt areas. little rock shares towers with differnt carriers. if there is no evdo why would i get differnt icons as i travel?
 
you're phone is confused, not you!

if ev-do is in testing in your market it is likely only turned on on 2-3 towers at a time. maybe you are going off and on those towers and that is why your icon changes.
