Europe’s financial markets are mixed early Wednesday ahead of the second day of Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke’s semi-annual Congressional testimony. Today he’s in front of the House Committee on Financial Services.
Ahead of the stock markets’ opening, Capital Spreads is calling the FTSE 100 up 17 at 5646, the DAX up 26 at 6604 and the CAC-40 up 19 at 3196. However, the euro is just below its closing levels in New York Tuesday, German Bund futures have opened down, oil prices are weaker and so is the gold price.
On the agenda are U.K. unemployment and the minutes of the last meeting of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee; euro-zone construction output; U.S. housing starts and the Fed’s ‘Beige Book’.
Additionally, Germany sells EUR5 billion of two-year 0% (yes, 0%) ‘Schatz’ and there are Treasury bill auctions in Portugal and the Czech Republic.
